Brian Mather

Brian Kent Mather, age 87, passed away at his home on August 7, 2023.
He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Pauline Mather, his sister Dawn Winnie, his brother Ronald Mather and his nephews Kim, Dale and Dean Mather.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margery Mather and his children Tammy (Michael) Telfer, Terri Howard, Brent (Sue) Mather, and Carolyn (Russell) Johnson. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren Ryan (Elizabeth) Telfer, Kyle (Jessica) Telfer, Kara Telfer, Kelsey Howard, Kaitlyn (Carl) Miller, Christian Mather, Bryce Mather, and Savannah Mather. Also survived by four precious great grandsons Lucas, Mason, Jaxston, and Kade Telfer. Also survived by sister-in-laws Beverly Meckle and Judy Reed and brother-in-laws Michael (Carla) Morgan and Tim (Vicki) Massie in addition to several nieces and nephews and their families.
Brian was a Vestal High School graduate and a graduate of Broome Tech (BCC). He served in the United States Army from 1954 – 1956. He thoroughly enjoyed his profession as a State Farm Insurance agent serving the community for 57 years. He was a lifetime member of the Vestal Volunteer Fire Department at Company 1 and a lifetime member of the Vestal Elks. He was instrumental in the foundation of the Vestal Emergency Squad and the Girl Scout swim program. He enjoyed umpiring little league and coaching including VYFL, Babe Ruth baseball, and Cinderella softball. He was on the Vestal Town Board and a member of the Broome County Legislature for 13 years. He served as a founding member of the original Vestal Plus Committee. He received the Sertoma Man of the Year Award for his volunteer efforts. He was a man truly dedicated to his wife of 66 years, his family and his community and will be dearly missed by all.
Funeral Services will be held Monday 10 am at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Sunday from 2-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Mather Scholarship at the SUNY Broome Foundation, Vestal Fire Department Company 1 at the Vestal Town Hall or Vestal Fifty Plus.
