Brian J. McFarland, of Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at his residence. He was 69 years old. Brian was born in Philadelphia on February 29, 1956 the late Peter and Almarita (née Kelly) McFarland. He was the husband to Diana M. (née Robson) McFarland with whom he is survived by.
Brian graduated Cardinal Doherty High School in 1976. Joined the Navy in '78 serving till '93. He spent 14.5 years in active duty there serving as an aircraft mechanic, through Dessert Storm. He spent 6 years in the Army National Guard '94-'00 and 4 years in the Air Force Reserves '00-'03. Totally 20 years of active service. He worked for the city of Philadelphia as a sanitation worker and later a SWEEP officer for 16 years. Then moved on to the VA Hospital in housekeeping where he later retired.
He spent his free time with his wife, being a taxi service for his grandson's numerous activities and being a loving Pop Pop to his three little grand daughters as often as he could. He enjoyed every moment of it. He always enjoyed movies, just never expect him to stay awake for a full one. Along with his wife Diana, Brian is survived by his children: Tara M. McFarland (Tim), Kelly M. McFarland (Andy), his grandchildren: Connor McFarland, Alexis Gladden, Greysen McFarland, Ember McFarland, two sisters: Karenann McFarland, Almarita Galeone (Gregory), and is predeceased by his brother Peter McFarland.
Services for Brian will be at St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 5900 N. Fifth St Philadelphia, PA 19120 on Saturday, May 3rd at 12pm. In honor of Brian, please wear blue to his services.
Family services are entrusted under the care of the Craft-Givnish Life Celebration Home, 215-659-2000.
