Brian J. McGinnis, beloved son of the late Patrick "Bucko" and Jean, loving father of Erin and Ian, great co-parent with Sheila, loving brother of Dr. Patrick (Kathleen), Michael (Kathy), Carol (Patrick) Ret. C.P.D. Fleming, Thomas (Marsha), Kevin (Linda), Stephen Ret. C.F.D. (Teri), John (Katie), and Mark (Patty) McGinnis, fond uncle of 27 nieces and nephews, and beloved friend to many. A Queen of Martyrs graduate 1971, Brian was Captain of the football team at Leo High School, playing both offense and defense, and was top of his class, graduating in 1975. Brian was awarded the Chick Evans Scholarship and graduated from Marquette University in 1980. He received his Masters in Public Administration from Governors State University several years later. He dedicated his career and later retired from the City of Chicago, last assigned as the Managing Deputy Commissioner to the Department of Buildings.
Brian was avid golfer, biker, and baseball fan. His fondest memories include countless hours coaching and watching his son, Ian, play baseball. He attended every game and was known by coaches and players alike as a super fan. He also enjoyed coaching and watching his daughter, Erin, play golf and closely followed her career in her field of choice, genetic counseling. He left us all with many great memories and lots of laughter. Most importantly, his lasting legacy is that he was a treasured father to his greatest gifts, Erin and Ian.

Brian will always be one of my favorites from my days at Leo, a place where a senior might "thumb" home with an underclassman. Brian joined us on the Lights in 1972 as a sophomore and was as tough as he was smart on the practice floor - a valued teammate. Off the floor he was always upbeat, smiling and engaged, as he was in our adult life whether we connected in a park, a gym or on the Rock Island train. What a guy!

My condolences to his family members, especially Sheila and brother Kevin.
