Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curley Funeral Home - Chicago Ridge on Jan. 17, 2026.
Edward Joyce, age 73, died suddenly on January 15, 2026. Born prematurely and weighing under 3 pounds to James and Helen Joyce, he fought valiantly to survive and everyday thereafter made the most of his gift of life, one anchored in faith, love, kindness, and compassion.
Ed was the beloved husband of Therese Keaty Joyce (deceased) and the exemplary father of Colleen (Andy) Drude, Carrie (Bob) Nowicki, and Tess (Bob) Ryan. His role as grandfather to Eddie, Jack, Ben and Bobby Nowicki, Timmy, Annie, Ian, and Molly Ryan, and Henry Drude was incomparable. Ed remains cherished by his siblings and their spouses: Jim and Janet (deceased), Tom and Rosemary (deceased), Kathy and Tom Gibbons, Mary Kujawa and Kevin Conlon, Ann and Tom Donnellan, and PJ. Ed also leaves behind his in-laws, and dozens of devoted Keatys: Mic (Kathy), Rene (Tony) Kaufmann, Tom (Jess), Pat (Julie), Nancy (John) McGinty, Jim (Nancy), Maryann (John) Bowen, Joe (Kathy), Bob, Cathy (Mike) O'Grady, Brian (Laurie).
After years of education at his respected schools, St. Sabina, Leo H.S., Illinois State University, and DePaul, Ed began his career in 1974 as a trading post coordinator. He worked his way up to President and COO of the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He has been duly credited for the growth and success of the Chicago Markets. While Ed excelled in his profession, his life was defined by his unwavering devotion to his family every single day. His greatest joy was Therese, his daughters, and his grandchildren. In 2011, Ed retired and began the best chapter of his life, as a grandfather. He made the most of the time he was given to make lasting memories with each of his 9 grandkids. They brought him so much joy and he was so proud of them!
He leaves behind dozens of Garry and Joyce cousins he loved so much, his forever St. Sabina, Leo, ISU and CBOE buddies, and his uncountable nieces and nephews who loved him with all of their hearts.
