Glenda Bishop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harness Funeral Home on Feb. 10, 2026.
Glenda B. Bishop, 83, of Buffalo, Wyoming passed away on February 8, 2026, at her home, in Buffalo. A Celebration of her life will be held Thursday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. at The Playhouse, at 7 N. Main St. in Buffalo, with Pastor Doug Hanner officiating. Private family interment will be beside her son's grave in Rochester, Illinois at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Dan Carlat-Occidental Jam Memorial Scholarship Fund at 10 N. Main Street in Buffalo. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com.

Born on December 13, 1942, in her grandparents' kitchen in Canton, Missouri, she was the daughter of Lola Ellen and George Bishop. Her parents divorced when she was two; she was raised by her mother and her beloved grandparents, Basil and Leonora Glisan.

Glenda was surrounded by a village of caring relatives and close friends including her mentors, Ruby "Tillie" Phillips and Don and Katie Sykes. Glenda worked for the Sykes as a soda jerk in their drug store, Don's Grand Leader, from ages 12 to 19. She graduated from Canton (Mo.) High School in 1960, attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton for two years, then graduated from Illinois State University in 1964.

She married Charles Watts on August 12, 1962, in Canton, Mo. To this union two children were born, Larry Watts and Karen Watts Blaney. They divorced in 1985.

After her children were in elementary school, she did accounting work for Communications Engineering Co. in Springfield, IL. She moved to Buffalo, Wyoming, in 2001 to be near her daughter Karen and her family. She worked several years as a teller at the Bank of Buffalo, then RVed for over 10 years with her companion, Bob Bowlby. After Bob's death, she found her dream job as a desk clerk at the Occidental Hotel. Her years working for her friends Jackie and David Stewart were some of the happiest of her life.

Glenda took delight in her three grandchildren and their activities. She loved helping Karen with her many projects: sewing costumes, managing Bighorn Bluegrass Camp, and endless painting. She enjoyed many meals prepared by her son-in-law Tim. Glenda was a regular at the Occidental Saloon Thursday Night Jam, enjoying the jammers, her fellow employees, and her friends, in particular her table buddies Shawn and Lynn Young, and Pat and Jim Linehan.

She is survived by daughter Karen Blaney (Tim); grandchildren Emmett, Morgan, and Kaitrin Blaney; the "other grandma" and good friend Sally Blaney; her late companion's family, and cousins and friends. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; son Larry Watts; companion Bob Bowlby; and half-siblings Brian Bishop and Theresa Bishop Mahecha.

She was one of the first people who actually LISTENED to a goofy kid sitting at the soda fountain. Her kindness and patience met more than she could ever know to my brother and I.

Canton school days would find her ,Vicki Bader( Leftwich) and I, Elaine Spurgeon (Blick)walking to school everyday. No car rides for us. We were a hardy trio.
Glenda was such a good loyal friend. When she and " her" Bob would come to Canton for a visit, Glenda would ask Kay Brown ( Bader) to call everyone so we could meet at the old " Grand Leader " ( Primo's today) What fun we had reminiscing about teachers, and classmates. She was the glue that kept us, (me, Denny and Jayne( Clark) Zenge) coming back to Canton, so we could spend time with her. She will be missed!!
