Jonathan David Shaffer

Jonathan "Jon" David Shaffer of Dunfermline, IL was born to the late David and Gloria Shaffer on February 4, 1970. After 56 years of living life to the fullest and fighting illness for the past couple years, he went to sleep at his home and left us peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Leroy and Georgia "Pat" Burgett, and his Uncle Neil.

He graduated from Canton High School and joined the Army, where he was a mechanic and served in Korea and was stationed at Fort Hunter Liggett in California before moving back to the Canton area. He worked for many years at Keystone and then as a plumber for the Danville Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He is survived by Kerri Shaffer, the mother of his daughters Bryanna and Lia, Bryanna's children Bronson, Addalyn, and Isabella. His sister, Tonya Snyder and her children Jordan, Tyler, and Eleanor.

As well as his wife Melinda Shaffer and children Kyle (Alexis) and Tearza Taylor, and their children Makenna, AnnMarie, and Dawson. He was Grandpa/Papa Jon to Makenna, AnnMarie, Dawson, Crysta, Jaison, Kenley, Addison, and Jackson.

He enjoyed spending time at his grandparent's farm, hunting and fishing. He had a love for gardening and watching wildlife. He also spent his time with his huskies Jax and Luna. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He took great pride in being a Veteran and serving the country.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM the same day at the funeral home. Rev. Kevin Van Tine will officiate. Burial will follow service at Waterford Cemetery in rural Lewistown, IL.
