Brian Lee Mogan, age 60, of
Portland, Oregon, died on January 11, 2026, in Portland.
Brian was born in Portland on June 19, 1965, to Roy Loren Morgan and Bernice Eileen Morgan (née Wirtzfeld). Brian and his fraternal twin brother, Bruce, were the youngest of five children. His other siblings were Marna, who was 17 years older; Loren, 15 years older; and Carla, 4 years older.
He attended Youngson Elementary School, Kellogg Elementary and Middle School, and Benson Polytechnic High School. In 1982, he earned his GED and enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17. Brian served six years in the Army as an infantry specialist and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas; Camp Colburn, South Korea; and Fort Lewis, Washington.
After his Army service, Brian spent several years in California, where he and his fraternal twin brother, Bruce, were roommates in Fremont. He later returned to his hometown of Portland. Brian worked in retail sales and the hospitality industry through the 1990s and early 2000s. At different times, he lived with friends or returned to the family home with his father. In the early 2000s, he attended the Western Culinary Institute as part of a hospitality degree program. In his later years, Brian worked for the Veterans Administration.
Brian would not have measured his life in material terms, but in the number of people he helped and the kindness he showed to others. He will be remembered for his love of movies, his joy during the holidays, and his willingness to lend a hand to friends in need. His time in the Army was an important part of his life, and he referred to it often, carrying those experiences with him long after his service ended. He held strong convictions and believed deeply in standing up for himself and for what he felt was right.
Brian was preceded in death by his brother, Loren Morgan (1970); his sister, Marna Morgan (1987); his mother, Bernice Eileen Morgan (1989); and his father, Roy Loren Morgan (2013).
He is survived by his girlfriend, Ami Calderon; his sister, Carla Sammons; and his brother, Bruce Morgan. He is also survived by his nephews, Tyler Sammons and Scott Halley; his nieces, Lea Elston, Lisa Nolan, and Lana Griffin; as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Scott Funeral Home in Portland, where friends and family are invited to speak and share memories. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held following the interment and will continue until 5:00 p.m. at Taborspace / Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. Food will be provided.
Brian lives on in the hearts of family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
