Michael Pinkerton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mount Scott Funeral Home - Portland on Jan. 26, 2026.
Michael Scott Pinkerton was born to Mike and Renee Pinkerton on December 26, 1977 in Walnut Creek, California. Scott was 2 when the family relocated to Olathe, Kansas and finally moved to Portland, Oregon when Scott was 8 years old. He has lived here ever since. Everyone acquainted with Scott knew him to be incredibly bright and witty. He made every gathering more fun for his being a part of it. He loved baseball. Later in life he discovered he was quite a gifted artist, even selling a few of his pieces at art shows in the city. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Persian Gulf. In his adult life he struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse which frequently left him homeless. But his family and many friends remained connected, doing everything they could to support him and get him the help he needed. On January 3, 2026, Scott's struggle was finally over and he passed peacefully from this life into the life to come. While we are so very sad at this loss, we are also thankful that our Scott is finally free. Scott is survived by his parents, siblings Sierra Handasyde, Andi McMartin, Daniel Pinkerton, Anna Pinkerton, Garret Gibson, Cody McCullough, eight nephews, and two nieces.

There will be a memorial service at 10 AM on February 21 at Imago Dei Community Church, 1302 SE Ankeny St, Portland. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), City Team Portland, or Friends of Trees.
