Brian Ohta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ferrara Colonial Mortuary - Orange on Jan. 16, 2026.
Brian Gregory Ohta, a loving, intelligent, and spirited man, passed away on January 6, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on May 4, 1964, in Indiana, Brian's journey through life was as dynamic and enriching as the many places he called home.

Growing up in a military family, Brian's childhood was a tapestry of experiences that spanned Indiana to Hawaii and even Germany. The family eventually settled in Orange County, California, where Brian would lay down roots and create a life filled with love, passion, laughter and achievement. A proud graduate of Cal State Fullerton, he earned his degree in finance and embarked on a career in the petroleum industry. As a pricing analyst, Brian's dedication to his work was unwavering, and he was respected by colleagues for his expertise during his 30-year tenure.

Brian's zest for life extended far beyond his professional endeavors. Known as "Uncle Brian" to many cousins and friends. He found joy in trout fishing, telling stories and making people laugh. His competitive spirit shone through in his love for bowling, where he was a fixture in many leagues, his name often topping the leaderboards. But it was the open road that called to him, leading to countless adventures and cherished memories on road trips to Las Vegas.

Brian's pride in his Hawaii heritage was a cornerstone of his identity. He was an active member of the Kama'aina Club of Orange County, cherishing his connections to the islands, especially Maui, and the culture that shaped him.

Brian found a renewed sense of peace in his Catholic faith that brought him comfort in his end-of-life journey. His faith became a beacon that illuminated his path.

Brian is survived by his father, Thomas Kiyoshi Ohta; his stepmother Jill; and his three brothers, Michael (wife, Terry), Robert, and Paul. He was a cherished uncle to Kyrstin and Marina, who will miss his guidance and the laughter he brought into their lives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Takie Shimoda, whose memory he held dear.

Brian Gregory Ohta's life was a testament to the power of love, the pursuit of passion, and the importance of heritage. His legacy is imprinted on the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the memories he created will forever be a source of comfort and joy to his family and friends.

As we bid farewell to a man whose life was as rich and varied as the landscapes he loved, we take solace in the knowledge that his journey was one well-traveled, and his story-one well-lived. Brian's love, intelligence, and spirited nature will be remembered always, as we celebrate a life that, though ended, continues to touch ours.

Brian was a kind soul with a wonderful laugh. He was such a gentleman and a pleasure to work with, going back to the ARCO and PSI days.

My condolences go to his family. We will miss Brian and all the sunshine he shared with us.

I want to express my deepest condolences to the family. Although I never had the chance to meet you personally, I feel as though I came to know you through Brian - he spoke of you often and always with so much love.
Brian and I worked together as pricing analysts for many years and during that time I came to know him as a smart, caring, and deeply family-oriented person. He wasn´t just a colleague to me; he was a friend.
I´ll always remember the small kindnesses he showed, like bringing me his smoked chicken whenever he made a big batch, or sharing fish from his trips because he knew I enjoyed it. Those gestures said so much about the kind of person he was.
He will be truly missed.
