Brian John Ratasiewicz, "Rat", age 49, of Wilmington, DE, passed away unexpectedly at home, on Monday, October 7, 2024.
He was born in Wilmington, DE, and was a graduate of Delcastle High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably for 4 years. Upon his discharge, he later began his career with the DuPont Company, and after 15 years, transitioned to a student services position at St. Mark's High School, a role he truly cherished.
Rat was larger than life. His gregarious personality was contagious and he made friends everywhere he went. He was a member of the American Legion and Stahl Post 1; enjoyed playing softball and golf; and especially enjoyed his role as a coach, mentor and teacher. Rat was generous with his time in support of St. John the Beloved and St. Mark's High School athletics and their student programs. Above all else, he found great pride in his role as a Father, Pop-Pop, Son, Brother, and Friend.
He is survived by his children, Lindsay (TJ) and Anthony Ratasiewicz; his grandchildren, Theo and Lainey; his parents, Walt and Cathi (Ewasko) Ratasiewicz; his sister, Stacie Buterbaugh (Mark); his niece, Kelsie Drake (Aaron; and their son, Wyatt); his grandmother, Ann Ewasko; his grandfather, Walt Ratasiewicz; and numerous cousins, members of his extended family, and countless friends.
Brian was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Ewasko; and his grandmother, Patricia Ratasiewicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit from 10:00am - 11:45am. Interment will be held in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Brian's memory to any of the following organizations that were so very near and dear to him: SL24 Unlock the Light Foundation; the JB12 Foundation; St. Mark's High School Athletic Department; or to the St. John the Beloved Athletic Association.
