Brian Kelly Tucker, 65, of Pensacola, Florida, and formerly Oskaloosa, went home to Heaven on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at his home in Pensacola.
Brian was born on August 29, 1959, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Dale and Marjorie (Gott) Tucker. He grew up in University Park, where he attended elementary school, and he later graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1977. Brian worked with his father, Dale, at the Texaco Service Station until it closed. After this, he found employment at Ideal Manufacturing and Oskaloosa Engineering until he decided to pursue an education in Accounting, taking courses at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa and graduating from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1991. As a young adult, Brian enjoyed playing softball and often played with industrial and church league teams at Edmundson Park.
Brian made his Profession of Faith at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, where he and Flo Van Mersbergen were married on August 28, 1981. They welcomed their son Andrew into their lives in 1984 and daughter Lydia in 1990. In 1997, the family moved to Pensacola, Florida, where Brian worked as an accountant, helping small businesses and clients with their payroll, bookkeeping, and tax preparation needs.
Brian built many meaningful relationships with clients and friends during these years in Pensacola. He was always willing to take the time to lend a listening ear and provide encouragement through life's many challenges and opportunities. Caring for individuals was Brian's way of sharing God's great love with others, and they found solace through these interactions. Brian and Flo deeply enjoyed traveling to visit their family in Iowa, Andrew's growing family in Wisconsin, and Lydia's new family in Destin. As a father, Brian never hesitated to set aside time to play catch in the backyard, go for a bicycle ride with his family, or plan family vacations.
Brian's memory is honored by his wife Florene; their son Andrew and his fiancé Sabrina Roum with their children Rebekah, Benjamin, Parker, Bethany, Breana, Brayden, and Bailey; and their daughter Lydia and her husband Bennett Stein and their baby son Henry.
Brian is survived by his two brothers and their wives: Steve and Lisa Tucker of Oskaloosa and Mike and Laura Tucker of Phoenix, Arizona; a brother-in-law and his wife Norman and Vicki Van Mersbergen of Cedar, Iowa; sisters-in-law Mary Roose of Peoria, Iowa and Kathy Van Mersbergen and husband Ron Dieleman of Pella, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Marjorie Tucker; his parents-in-law, Marius and Marjorie Van Mersbergen; and three brothers-in-law: Darrel Van Mersbergen, Gary Van Mersbergen, and John C Roose.
The funeral service for Brian will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa with Rev. Jonathan Spronk officiating. Following the funeral, the burial will take place at Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday, March 7th, at 1 p.m. at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 4-6 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Gideons Organization or Samaritan's Purse.
