Brian Wessel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Browning Funeral Home - Evansville on Nov. 27, 2024.
Brian Edward Wessel, 48, of Newburgh, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on November 25, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Brian was born in Evansville, IN on June 29, 1976, the son of Cindi and Edward M Wessel Jr.
He shared his life with his children and their mothers: Hayley (Zane Armstrong) Wessel and her mother, Jennifer (Patrick) Powell, and Amberly and Liam Wessel and their mother, Sheilah Helwig. His girlfriend and her two sons: Kelly, Jakob and Jarid Buchanan.
Brian attended Bosse High School, graduating in 1994, and then served this great country by joining the United States Marine Corps, which was a childhood dream of his.
Following in his father's footsteps, Brian continued his duty of protecting and serving by becoming a police officer. One of his greatest accomplishments was serving the community and impacting the students of Warrick County as a School Resource Officer for the Warrick County Sheriff's Department. Brian was a deputy for 24 years.
He bled Blue and Gold for Notre Dame football and loved to grill, smoke meat and cook. He loved to smile and laugh, and was one of the greatest friends to have. At times, he'd surprise you with his wisdom and knowledge, as he always had a love for history and learning.
Brian was able to accept the Lord and was welcomed home by his Savior along with many loved ones that went before him.
In addition to being survived by his parents and children, Brian is also survived by his sister, Brooke (Andy) Beard, brother in law, Cory (Ashley) Smith, nephews: Brendon (Mariah) Smith and Aedon Smith. Aunts and Uncles: Debbie and Mark Carnes, Traci and John Kettinger, Scott Rogers, John Moser, and many cousins and great aunts and uncle.
The family would like to thank the Critical Care staff of Gateway's A400.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Brian's life from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the continuing education fund for his children at Liberty Federal Credit Union, Account No. 228731237.
