Bridget Matakonis Obituary
At the young age of 15, Bridget embarked on a courageous journey to America, crossing the ocean on a freighter ship to reunite with her sisters. This act of bravery exemplified her determination and resilience, as she never set foot on a boat again.
Throughout her career, Bridget displayed unwavering dedication in her work and family. She contributed her skills to the Princeton Newspaper, Olan Mills, and as a Crossing Guard for the Abington police department before becoming a claims adjuster for the St, Paul Insurance Company. Her commitment and professionalism left a lasting impact on those with whom she worked.
However, Bridget's greatest joy in life came from her marriage to Albert Matakonis, whom she met at the Irish Club in Jenkintown, PA. Their love story spanned an incredible 57 years, filled with cherished memories and unwavering devotion.
Bridget leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She is survived by her adoring children: Debra Westcott (Chuck) of Somers Point, NJ, Linda Vandenbergh (the late Raymond) of Bonita Springs, FL, Richard Matakonis (Debra) of Palm Bay, FL, Thomas Matakonis (Donna) of Red Lion, PA, and Steve Matakonis (Rina) of Abington, PA. Her beloved grandchildren, Shawn, Cory, Richard Jr., Brenda, Stephen, and Chelsey, brought immeasurable joy to her life. Bridget also had a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Edward, Erik, Rain, River, Archer, Clover, Roman, and Mikalya. She is survived by her brother, Jimmy Farrelly of Birmingham, UK.
Services to celebrate Bridget's life will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania, allowing friends and family to come together and pay their respects. The location and time will be announced in due course. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home Family Owned and Operated Since 1978.
Bridget Matakonis will be remembered for her courage, dedication, and love for her family.
