Brigitte Charlotte Maria Bowers, affectionately known as "Omi," passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her beloved family, at the age of 91. Her feisty spirit and unwavering love will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on December 19, 1933, in Mannheim, Germany, Brigitte was the daughter of the late Heinrich and Anna Faigle. She lived through some of history's most challenging times, enduring the trials of the Nazi period, World War II, and the post-war years. These experiences shaped her resilience and compassion, qualities that defined her character and guided her throughout her life.
At the age of 24, Brigitte met the love of her life, George, while he was stationed in Mannheim with the Army. Their love blossomed, leading to their marriage on January 11, 1958. Together, they embraced the adventure of military life, moving to various locations including South Carolina, Alaska, Germany, Texas, Maryland, and finally Virginia. Each place brought new friendships and cherished memories, but it was the love of her family that remained her greatest joy.
Brigitte had a zest for life that was evident in her many passions. She loved to dance, especially during Friday night dances with George, and took great pride in watching her daughter perform in horse shows. Family visits were a highlight, particularly those with her son in Florida. She cherished her time spent with friends, from coffee calls to movie nights, and was known for her authentic cooking and baking, delighting in sharing her culinary creations with others.
A devoted member of the Fort Eustis Regimental Memorial Chapel, Brigitte found a second family within the community.
Brigitte is now reunited with her beloved son, George H. Bowers, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted husband, George F. Bowers, with whom she shared 67 beautiful years of marriage; her daughter, Scarlet Bowers; her treasured granddaughters, Marlena Passante (Matthew) and Erika Parham (Chris); and her proud great-grandchildren, Greyson Passante and her awaited great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her sisters, Waltraud Chism and Elke Muller (Peter).
A memorial service to honor Brigitte's life will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 6 PM at Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg, with Dr. David Martinez officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brigitte's caregiver, Celine Logan, for her loving care over the past two years, as well as to the Traditions Health team, including Tera Hunter-Shelton CNA, Sesly Jones RN, Angy Towne RN, Barbara Fallon NP, and Chaplain Dr. David Martinez, for their compassionate support.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages everyone to take a moment to visit with family or friends, as Brigitte understood the profound importance of nurturing those relationships. Her legacy of love and connection will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Rest in peace, dear Omi. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
