Mr. Bruce Richard Allen left this life and went to his heavenly home on December 14, 2024, in Austin, Texas at the age of 90. Born to Mildred Babb Allen and Walter Hugh Allen on October 9, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bruce was a beacon of generosity, servanthood, and faith throughout his life. His light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved him so very much.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Walter, and his loving wife of 66 years, Adalee "Lee" Gilliam Allen. He is survived by his devoted children, Donna Lee McGehee, and Bruce Randal "Randy" Allen and his wife Donna. Bruce's legacy will further live on through his cherished grandchildren: Melissa Allen Smith and her husband Chris, Brian Michael Allen and his wife Brooke, and Byron Austin McGehee and his wife Ali. Bruce also took great joy in his great-grandchildren: Charlotte Grace Smith, Carter Matthew Smith, and Kohen Lee Allen.
Bruce's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife, Adalee "Lee" Gilliam Allen, whose companionship provided him with enduring love and support. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, their bond a beacon of mutual respect and affection.
Bruce grew up in the Philadelphia area and developed a strong affection for horses and shiny fast cars. As a boy, he loved riding his horses and developed a strong work ethic as a hired hand at the stables. He carried this love for horses throughout his life and continued riding occasionally into his senior years. During high school, Bruce developed a passion for fast shiny cars. With that, also came a love for informally racing his cars against friends and acquaintances. This hobby led him to being an avid fan of auto racing. As a young adult, he loved the races at the local tracks in Pennsylvania. He was also an avid fan of Indy cars, F1, and NASCAR. Many family vacations consisted of a road trip to state and national parks, some hiking and horseback riding, and a stop at some of the finest U.S. racetracks to see a race.
Professionally, Bruce enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school and was initially stationed in Alaska. He was later stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas where he met his future wife. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bruce married Lee Allen on November 9, 1957. The family lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for eight years before moving back to Texas in 1965. Bruce was a career salesman for many different types of goods and services. He worked in retail stores for several years and later earned his real estate license. He worked as a residential real estate agent and went on to own and manage a real estate office. Later, he returned to his love for automobiles and worked as a new car salesman for several dealerships in the Austin area. He had a devoted following of return customers who loved his patience, personal touch and willingness to go the extra mile in delivering the best possible customer experience.
Bruce was a caring man that was always helping people in need. He frequently provided financial assistance to those that were going through a tough time. For many years, he provided rides to his church for the elderly members. He took great joy in treating family and friends to a great meal and great conversation at his favorite restaurants. He was a great giver.
Bruce's life was not without its challenges, but he faced them with grace and faith. He stood strong in his convictions and was an example of unwavering faith to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched.
