Bruce Chaltraw Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Midland Chapel on Feb. 5, 2026.
Bruce E. Chaltraw, Jr., 71 of Sanford, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at Olson Manor. Born on Christmas Day in 1954, in Saginaw, son of the late Bruce E. and Virginia (Millar) Chaltraw, Sr.
Bruce's early years in Saginaw laid the foundation for a life marked by service and commitment. After completing his education, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, embodying the values of honor and duty.

Following his military service, Bruce embarked on a fulfilling career with General Motors, where he was not only a respected employee but also an active member of the United Auto Workers union. His work was an integral part of his life, and he approached it with the same integrity and enthusiasm that he brought to every endeavor.

On August 13, 1993, he married the former Jean Kay Tolfree in Saginaw.

He was a devoted father to his children: Deborah Lee (Nickolas Suzor) Chaltraw of Midland, Aaron (Jennifer) Chaltraw, Beth Amber (Michael) Rowe, all of Merrill, Kay Ann Marie Chaltraw, and Hollie Jean Chaltraw. Bruce's joy was multiplied with the arrival of his granddaughter, Siobhan Suzor, who brought a new spark of happiness into his life, along with grandchildren Brayden, Nicholas, and Nathan. He is also survived by his siblings, brother John Chaltraw of Burt, and sister Sheryl Schmidt-Chaltraw of Saginaw.
Beyond his family and work, Bruce was a true car buff. His passion for automobiles was more than a hobby; it was a part of who he was. Bruce was also a dedicated fan of the Detroit Lions, remaining loyal through thick and thin, and his enthusiasm was contagious. After retiring and following the passing of his beloved wife, Bruce's focus became his daughters. He poured his love and energy into taking care of them, demonstrating the depth of his selflessness and love.
Funeral services for Bruce will take place 11 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Pastor Linda Bissonnette will officiate with interment to follow in Sanford Cemetery. Bruce's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of the service.
