Bruce T "Tad" Gilmore

Dr. Bruce (Tad) Taylor Gilmore M.D., F.A.C.S. died on December 09, 2024, in Greeley, CO.
Dr. Bruce (Tad) Taylor Gilmore was born June 21, 1940, in Denver, Colorado to Margaret Taylor Gilmore and Bruce Millard Gilmore. He was raised in Due West, South Carolina and received his undergraduate degree from Erskine College in Due West. He earned his MD degree from the University of South Carolina Medical School in Charleston, SC. He did his residency at St Joseph's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. After his residency he served in the U.S. Air Force (Major) from 1972-1974. He later served in the U.S Army Medical Core (Lt. Coronel) till his retirement from the service after the Gulf War in 1991.
Dr. Tad and his family were in a private surgical practice in Greeley, Colorado from 1974-1995. During those years they traveled to Vietnam, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Kenya and Haiti, to work on Medical Teams serving the poor.
From 1978-1981 The family moved to Swaziland, South Africa to serve as medical missionaries. Dr Tad served in Minot, North Dakota United States Air Force Hospital during the Viet Nam War and from December 1990-March 1991 in the United Arab Emirates U.S. Army during the Gulf War.
After a successful career in surgery in Greeley, in June 1995, they were once again accepted to missionary service this time to Nepal. They left their home and private practice in January 1996 to become affiliated with the United Mission to Nepal. They were stationed at Tansen Mission Hospital in the central – western region of Nepal until 2003. Dr. Tad worked as a surgeon and physician educator while meeting the needs of the poor in that area. Jane was actively involved in facilitating and leading many conferences and women's programs. Jane was a teacher and conference speaker and entered into meaningful relationships with those of like mind and those of opposing views.
After losing the visa under the Maoist regime in 2003, they moved to New York City where they worked with International Students at Columbia University and New York University.
In 2007, they moved back to Greeley to care for Tad's mother and be closer to their children. In Greeley, they continued their work with international students through an organization they co-founded called Cross Cultural Connections. Dr. Tad and Jane facilitated Cross Cultural Connections in the Northern Colorado area on the campuses of the University of Colorado, Aims Community College, and The University of Northern Colorado until 2017 when they retired.
During their 57 years of marriage, they traveled to 29 countries and were in close relationship to students from over 25 countries. They helped students to acculturate to American society as well as facilitate conversation groups with PhD and Visiting Scholars and their wives on topics ranging from political turmoil to personal health. These students come from countries all over the world with histories that were sometimes wrought with interpersonal problems we in America are unaware of. Their groups were successful not only in delving into the topic at hand but creating bridges between students they at one time thought were impossible.
In the years following his retirement, Tad tutored at AIMS Community College in Biology and worked at Good-Samaritan as a caregiver for the elderly. Jane continued their work with international students and volunteered at various agencies in Greeley.
He is survived by his wife Jane, children; Catherine (Matthew) Groves of Springfield, Missouri; William (Catherine) Gilmore of Severence, Colorado; and Andrew Gilmore of Greeley, Colorado; and 12 precious grandchildren; Isaiah, Isaac, Garland Groves; Noah, Helena, Leah, Markus, Elsa, Cate, Irena, Gilmore; Katelin (Zach) Mott, and Samantha (Chase)Crabtree; 4 precious great grandchildren; Enola, Ahna, Calaway Crabtree, and William Mott.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 3:30pm at Cornerstone Community Church, 1321 9th Ave, Greeley, Co. In lieu of flowers the family has asked all donations to be made to Cornerstone Church to help rebuild the church in Nepal that was swept away by the flood waters last month.
