Bruce LaRue Helm, 87, of Perryville passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Born in Danville on August 6, 1938, he was the son of the late John LaRue and Gladys Rogers Helm.
A 1956 graduate of Perryville High School and a 1960 graduate of University of KY, Bruce went on to complete his real estate and broker licenses. He was co-owner of Helm and Reynolds Realty and Auction Co. for almost 50 years. In 1988, he joined three other Perryville farmers as proprietors of the New Harrodsburg Tobacco Warehouse until its sale in the early 2000's.
Bruce's kind and generous nature made him a beloved figure, not just within his family, but with everyone he knew. He was a dedicated and respected community member, actively participating on the boards of various agricultural organizations and serving as a director for multiple banks. His daily passion was found in owning and operating multiple farms in western Boyle Co. where he worked many long hours.
Bruce lived a life marked by integrity, faith, and a deep love for others. His life was a testament to the teachings of Christ--humble in spirit, generous in heart, and steadfast in prayer. As a founding member of Westend Church of Christ in 1970, he served faithfully as an elder and Sunday school teacher for years. Bruce took immense pride in welcoming newcomers to the congregation.
To his grandchildren, Bruce was a storyteller, mentor, and constant source of laughter and love. His words always carried a piece of wisdom, advice, or encouragement. Sharing in the daily life of his six grandchildren was his greatest joy.
Bruce often said the best day of his life was the day he met Donna at church. His love for her never wavered and grew stronger through the years. Their marriage reflected a true devotion to each other and a shared commitment to God.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Durham Helm of Perryville; daughter, Rebecca (Rob) Kernodle of Perryville; son, John (Kendra) Helm of Perryville; grandchildren: Caleb, Luke, Joshua, and Jacob Kernodle and Kennedy and Nash Helm.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, John Rogers Helm.
Visitation is 4:00 PM-8:00 PM Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Showroom in Danville and from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM at Westend Church of Christ on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Funeral Service will be at Westend Church of Christ at 2:00 PM on Wednesday with Bro. Rob Kernodle, Bro. Andy Baker, and Bro. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Perryville. Pallbearers will be Caleb, Luke, Joshua, and Jacob Kernodle, Nash Helm, Mike Lucas, Benny Moreno, and Todd Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers are Morgan Cox, Bennie Gilbert, Jimmy Overstreet, Freddie Edwards, Frankie Emerson, and Jerry Ledford.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers for their exceptional compassion, dedication, and love given to Bruce and his family: Edyn Float, Kim Pearce, Lauren Pearce, Emma Moreno, Vicki Perkins, Linda Bryant, Morgan Caldwell, Charlotte Wren, and Delanie Andrus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westend Church of Christ Missions Fund, PO Box 971, Danville, KY 40423.
