Bruce John Hilger, ("Nomad") age 88 of North Saint Paul, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2025.
Preceded in death by parents, John and Marian. Sister, Pam Fossum.
He is lovingly remembered by wife Janet (Early) of 52 years. Children; Bill (family), Sue Damico (Tom Kamrath), Heidi (Todd) Krogstad, Heather; Grandchildren Ashley, Rachel, Lauren, Connor, Nyah, Blake; great granddaughter Emma; also, a host of family and friends.
Bruce was born and raised in Roseville with his parents and sister. After graduating from Alexander Ramsey HS, he served in the Army as a Turkish Interpreter and was certified to read Morse Code.
He met his first wife and together had Bill and Sue. They traveled for work and in the late 60's, landed back in Minnesota. Bruce then met his current wife, Janet. Together they had Heidi and Heather. Living in St Paul, Bruce worked construction, traveling as project manager for different companies. He then landed a position with Berwald Roofing and spent several years there before retiring.
Bruce lived a life full of adventure and joy, sharing countless memories with family and friends through hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He cherished weekend getaways, camping and exploring trails on 4-wheelers with his kids and grandkids. His grandchildren held him in the highest regard, captivated by the stories he told-tales that often sounded too incredible to be true, yet always were.
He had a special love for his dogs. Most recent, yellow lab Shania.
He may have seemed stubborn and strong-willed on the outside, those who knew him well saw the gentle giant within. He took great pride in all that he had, lived with passion, played hard, and worked even harder.
Whether you just met him, or knew him for years, when you think of Bruce, listen to the song "My Way" He always did life His Way!
Rest in Peace "Nomad" Your work here is complete, we'll take it from here.
Special Thank You to Jamie and Terry with Accent Care Hospice.
