Obituary for Bruce Newell Jensen
Bruce Newell Jensen, born on June 27, 1941, in Heber City, passed away on May 28, 2024, returning home to his heavenly father and reuniting with the loving embrace of his wife, Karen, at the gates of heaven. He was an iconic cowboy, legendary storyteller, renowned train robber for the Heber Valley Railroad, and an unforgettable teacher who is leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Bruce served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Europe, and he did so with great pride. Upon his return, he continued to prove himself a man of many talents and passions. He dedicated his life to his family, his work, and his community. Bruce dedicated many years to working for the Forest Service. He meticulously cared for the land from truck to trail, leaving his mark of preservation and beautification on everything he touched. As an iconic cowboy (AKA "Black Jack Raven"), he embodied the spirit of the Wild West, instilling a sense of adventure and wonder in all those who joined him on the trails. His stories, both real and fictional, captivated audiences and most assuredly ended with a good laugh. Bruce also thoroughly enjoyed his train robbing performances and bringing joy and excitement to many visitors worldwide who came to his beloved little valley of Heber.
Bruce was a beloved father to five wonderful children: Alayna (Rick), Travus (Amanda), Brandon (Amy), Britt (Brandy), and Tyrell (Samantha). He was a pillar of comfort and wisdom for his family, always providing abundant guidance and love.
Bruce's legacy extends beyond his immediate family to his incredible 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He also held a very special place for all his extended and honorary family. He took great pride in watching and listening to stories about his friends and family's growth and successes. He found joy in the laughter and love that filled the smoky air around the campfire during family gatherings and celebrations.
Bruce is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Jensen; his parents, Lucinda and Newell Jensen; and his brothers, Darrell Jensen and Lamar Jensen, and his great-granddaughter, Sayler Fairbourn.
Throughout his life, Bruce touched the hearts of many with his kindness, generosity, and genuine spirit. He was a friend to all who knew him, always ready with a smile, or a captivating tale to share. Bruce will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for his family.
As we mourn the loss of Bruce, we also celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the countless memories he created. His legacy will continue to live on through the generations he leaves behind.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 500 N 325 E from 6-8 PM. A memorial service to honor and remember Bruce Newell Jensen will be held at the same location on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The viewing will be from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by the funeral from 1-2 PM. The graveside service will follow the funeral at the Heber City Cemetery 680 North 550 East Heber City, Utah 84032.
A recording of the services will be available later that evening.
We would like to express my sincere gratitude to the dedicated medical team at Heber Valley Hospital, and the IHC homecare providers, as well as the primary care physicians and nurses for their exceptional care and support. They all played a crucial role in helping Bruce navigate his health journey and provided him with comfort over the last several months.
Bruce, your legacy of love, laughter, and storytelling will forever remain in our hearts. May you rest in peace, knowing that you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Mr. Jensen was probably the most liked teacher in the school. He was also a friend. He enjoyed the challenge of teaching French to those of us who couldn't even speak English correctly! I am so sad to hear of his passing! He was a great influence on many, many students! RIP Bruce!

I moved next door to Bruce a few years ago and hadnt lived there very long when Here comes Bruce rolling up in his truck to introduce himself!!
He always would stop by and see how i was doing & if i needed my lawn mowed!!
I always love seeing Bruce drive by & honk & wave!!
He was always so kind and one of my favorite times would be going to lee´s and there´s Bruce hanging out in the motorized shopping carts just people watching and hanging out!!
I loved seeing him mow his lawn with his yellow hard hat on & listening to all his stories and jokes!!
A few times i got to hang in his teepee and listen to him play his rawhide Indian drum & sing!!
I will miss such a sweet neighbor and kind man but Im sure hes Happy to be reunited with his Sweetheart!!
Rest in Peace my Friend till we meet again

I am Jed Hardman. Bruce was a Teacher of mine for 2 years. I will never forget walking into his classroom, him sitting back, looking very relaxed, but when the bell rang, it was time to get to work. He always treated everyone nice, but if you were out of line, you were out of line, something anyone should respect. He demanded respect from the students, made us all learn and of course, there were a lot of laughs out of his class room. He really had command of the English language and I beleive he spoke French as well.

My senior year, 2000, he walked into MR Moss Class room and recited his poem, he had it memorized, it was so long. I think it shocked everyone that anyone could remember such a long poem. It was of course part of his cowboy poetry stuff. Over the years I ran into so many people out and about that knew Bruce. I was to a meeting in Tooele and I said I was from Heber. The guy asked if i knew Bruce. I said of course. The whole table stared at me and then it was like I was just part of them. Everyone at the Table had a story about Bruce or asked if he was still robbing trains or teaching. They all wanted to talk about Bruce and what he did, ya know, Cowboy stuff in general. People remembered him so well, he had a great way of making people like him but not because he wanted to be liked but because he made people reach inside of them for the goodness that is in this world.

He was a character, He was born 100 years later than he was supposed to. He will be missed, he truly was a mountain man and a good man too. He always treated me with a lot of respect, he knew my father Twitch and my Uncles Guy and Jeff well. He always talked about doing timber with them when he was a younger man.

I am sad for the family and really for Heber Valley in General, the Valley is becoming less Heber without a guy like him around to remind us what Life is all about.

Mr. Jensen always made everyday at school fun. English was never boring. French was always, to me, a way to escape. He will never know what it meant.
