Bruce "Brucie" Alexander McCray was born June 19, 1968, to Martha Christina Collins and Napolean McCray in Timmonsville, South Carolina. He was a shining example of kindness and selflessness. His unwavering compassion extended to all, and he dedicated his life to supporting and uplifting others in need.
In his adolescent years, Bruce was a member of Gethsemane P.B. Church, Newark, New Jersey, under the leadership of Elder E.W. Wallace. Bruce was educated in both the public and private schools of
Paterson, NJ, later furthering his education at a technical college. He worked in the computer field for many years before becoming a successful entrepreneur, as the owner of Now Logistics Transportation and Transportation Pros trucking companies.
Bruce was a devoted father who loved spending time with his children. His role as Dad brought him immeasurable joy. He could be found every weekend traveling with his sons to AAU basketball team, with his youngest by his side. He contributed resources for academic development on and off the court. He was passionate about coaching basketball and served as a father figure to many young men, enriching their lives in so many ways.
While Bruce was a hard worker who gave back to his community, he also believed in enjoying life. He loved motorcycles, fast cars, and traveling. He was a fun-loving person with a charismatic personality. He had an infectious laugh that will be remembered by all.
With a heart of gold and a spirit of abundant generosity, Bruce "Brucie" Alexander McCray transitioned into eternal rest on July 14, at Hackensack University Medical Center, in Hackensack, New Jersey, after succumbing to his injuries sustained in a car accident. He leaves a legacy of living life to the fullest with compassion, laughter, support, and love that touched f the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bruce was preceded in death by his newborn daughter, Ali'tayah Alexandria McCray, father; Napolean McCray, paternal grandmother; Idus McCray; maternal grandparents; Samuel, Sr. and Mazaleen Smith, three aunts; Myra Smith, Ruth Timmons, and Bobby Jean McCray, five uncles; Cecil Smith, Monroe, Willie McCray, and David Walker.
His presence will be missed immensely and those left to cherish his loving, memory are his children; Sevyen Jones, Bryce McCray, and Brayce McCray, mother, Martha Tena (William) Collins, brothers; Demond (Natisha) McCray, Maurice Collins and Dashon Smalls, sister; Shirlene (Charles) Green, nephews; Demond McCray, Jr. (godson), JaShon Barron, Titan Smalls, Dorwan McKnight, Dwayne McKnight, and Jordan Collins, nieces; Madison and Ashlee McCray, Da'Nilah Smalls, Tyyanah and Zhane Collins, god-sisters; Trenee Smith, Donna S. Hodges, and Angela Burgos-Oliver; goddaughter; Bria Sinclair; god-son, David "Mooch" Logan, special friend; Candise Cooper, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, an abundance of friends and friendships for over several decades.
Let us honor Bruce's memory by carrying forward the values he lived by; by living our lives to the fullest with kindness, compassion, laughter, support, and most of all the love he expressed to his family and friends.
