Bruce McGivern Obituary

Bruce Warren McGivern, 85, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 9, 1940, Bruce was a man of strength, loyalty, and quiet generosity, and Bruce leaves behind a legacy rooted in service, family, and community.

Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for four years following his graduation from high school. His time in the Marines shaped the discipline and commitment that would define the rest of his life. After returning home, he devoted 30 years to the Pittsfield Fire Department, serving his community with courage and dedication until his retirement in September 1996.

Beyond his career, Bruce found his greatest joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. He was an avid fisherman and could often be found casting a line at Onota Lake, patiently teaching his children and grandchildren the art of fishing. Those days by the water created memories that will be cherished for generations. He also enjoyed playing Keno at his favorite local spots, Teo's and Hudpuckers, where he spent many relaxed afternoons among friends and family. Bruce had a love for betting on horse racing and treasured his annual trip to Saratoga Race Course in the summer.

Bruce had a passion for cooking, especially his beloved Sunday dinners. His garden was another source of pride. He tended it faithfully and found happiness in sharing the vegetables he grew with neighbors and loved ones.

He was the son of David McGivern and Lillian McGivern, who welcomed him home before him.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Gail McGivern; his children, Heather Krasnov (and Geoff), Debbie McGivern, and Shawn McGivern; his stepchildren, Noelle Lenski (and Justin), and Ed Skowron (and Rebecca); his cherished grandchildren, Tyler Hewitt, Kalee Goshea, Makenzie Williams, Kassidy McGivern, Jillian McGivern, and Logan "the kid" Lenski; and his five great grandsons, Emerson, Warren, Walker, Wesley, and Hayden.

Bruce now reunites with his loyal furry companion, Audie. His steady presence, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

SERVICES: Calling hours at the Dery Funeral Home will be Thursday February 19, 2026 from 4-7PM. Funeral with Fire and Military Honors for Bruce will be the next morning, Friday February 20, 2026 at the Dery Funeral Home beginning at 11AM.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made payable to Soldier On or The Jimmy Fund and mailed to the funeral home at 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201
