Ed McGivern, 81, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was called home by our Lord and Savior on December 26, 2025, encircled by his beloved family.

Born on February 25, 1944, in New Orleans, Ed was the devoted husband of Linda Bayard McGivern; the cherished father of two daughters, Kim LeBoeuf and Kelly Laviolette; and the ever-present grandfather, “Gee,” to Linley, Laney, and Landon LeBoeuf, and Jackson and Jaden Laviolette. Family was the center of his life, and he took the greatest joy and deepest pride in his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. His support was unwavering, and his smiling face and cheers of encouragement were present at every event, game, and performance. Ed loved deeply with his whole heart and always made sure his family knew this, through both words and actions. He greatly loved The Lord and provided a Catholic education for both of his daughters, encouraging a continued life of faith with Christ. He was always the “life of the party” and a kind, loyal, and thoughtful friend. In every area of life, he was a coach—offering encouragement, guidance, strength, direction, and assistance. He was a passionate soul who treasured every moment spent with his family and friends.

Ed was also known for his strong work ethic and natural leadership qualities that defined his distinguished career in education. Ed attended Louisiana State University where he was a proud member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity and earned a degree in education and master’s in administration. He served with dedication as a teacher, coach, and administrator for over 35 years. Throughout his career, Ed touched countless lives in meaningful and lasting ways, earning the respect and admiration of students and colleagues alike. He was honored as Teacher of the Year, a reflection of his commitment, compassion, and ability to inspire others. Loved by both students and staff, Ed was more than an educator; he was a mentor, role model, and steady presence whose influence extended far beyond the classroom. His legacy lives on in the many lives he shaped through his guidance, encouragement, and example.

Ed was an avid LSU fan and lifelong supporter of the Tigers. He had not missed a home football game in Tiger Stadium since the age of seven, nearly up until the time of his passing. His love for LSU was deep and unwavering, and his presence will be greatly missed on game days. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends tailgating and instilled his love for the Tigers in his children and grandchildren! If the Tigers were playing away, he loved having his family gathered to watch, grilling for everyone, sitting around the table, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Those moments of laughter, conversation, and togetherness are among the many memories his family will forever hold dear.

His legacy of faith, family, and love will live on through those he leaves behind – his beloved wife of 56 years, Linda Bayard McGivern, his two daughters, Kim LeBoeuf (Carroll LeBoeuf), Kelly Laviolette (Beau Laviolette), and his cherished grandchildren, Linley, Laney, and Landon LeBoeuf, and Jackson and Jaden Laviolette. He is also survived by his brother, John D’Angelo (Cheryl D’Angelo). He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Latino D’Angelo, his father George Edward McGivern, and his stepfather Prospero John D’Angelo.

Ed will be deeply missed and forever loved. All who loved him will remember his abundant love, kind heart, and eternal encouragement.

We take comfort in the promise of Scripture:

“Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we be always with the Lord.”

— 1 Thessalonians 4:17

Visitation will take place at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge, LA, 70809, on Friday, January 2, 2026, beginning at 10:30 AM followed by Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM. Burial to follow at the church’s cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to the medical professionals at Our Lady of the Lake ICU, especially Dr. Mary Raven and Mrs. Jen Connison.
