Bruce David Oberg, aged 71, passed away on February 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family. Bruce was born on April 10, 1954, in
Redwood City, California, at Sequoia Hospital. Bruce spent his early years growing up in Belmont where he attended Carlmont High School and later raised his own children. He spent most of his life in San Mateo County, finally residing in Contra Costa County in his later years.
Bruce was known throughout his life as a hardworking man who took great pride in using his hands to build, repair, and create. Bruce was most recently working in a Harley shop doing what he loved best, wrenching on bikes. He worked for many years as a shop foreman. His early years were spent working for his father at Dispenser Juice and working construction on the weekends with his brother-in-law. Bruce worked tirelessly to support his family.
Bruce had a deep passion for motorcycles. His earlier years were spent enjoying motocross. Sundays were often reserved for "church," which for Bruce, meant going riding with his kids in Hollister. In his later years, he enjoyed a passion for Harley-Davidsons. Riding with fellow enthusiasts brought him camaraderie, joy, and above all, freedom.
Bruce was a family man. He shared 26 years with his beloved second wife, Doreen, including 13 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and memories. He was a devoted father to Jenna, Melanie, John, and Stephanie, as well as sons-in-law Brian and Tim. He was most proud of being a grandfather to Natalia, Juliana, John Jr., Zachary, Jacob, Kylie, Emma, Avery, and Ryan. His love only grew with the arrival of his great-grandchildren Eliseo Jr., Eliana, and Eimeo.
Bruce was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert James Oberg and Janice Maxson McShea, as well as his siblings Jim, Alan, and Lisa. He is survived by his sister, Sandy, along with many family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
Those who knew Bruce will remember a man who could talk to anyone and made friends wherever he went. He had a strong presence. At first glance he was often seen as stoic and intimidating, but underneath was a caring, loyal, and protective heart. He loved to laugh, barbeque at family gatherings, and spend time with his children and grandchildren. Bruce was the rock of his family, raising his children with determination, resilience, and tough love when needed, always ensuring they were cared for.
Bruce enjoyed reading, watching football and old westerns, and listening to a wide variety of musical styles. He also loved fishing and going to races, whether it be bikes, cars, or boats. Family traditions were important to Bruce, particularly holidays spent together. Easter held special significance, often celebrated near his birthday, as well as Christmas gatherings filled with laughter and stories.
Bruce wanted to be remembered not with sadness, but with celebration for a life lived fully and fiercely. His family carries forward the values he instilled: hard work, loyalty, love for family, and perseverance through life's challenges.
His loving family shares a message as he is dearly missed:
"Fly high with the angels. We love you. One day we will all be together."
