Rev. Don Patrick Oberg, 74, went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2026. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Don’s life journey took him from Chicago to Lincoln and Lolo, Montana, and eventually to Sacramento, California, where he continued serving the people and communities he loved.
Don was many things over the years — a pastor, mentor, missionary, church planter, bus driver, Vacation Bible School director, camp director, small business owner, and steel mill worker. Whatever role he held, his heart was always the same: serving God and serving people. He devoted his life to ministry, counseling, visitation, encouragement, and bringing others to faith. Many were baptized through his ministry, and countless lives were touched by his wisdom, humor, and compassion.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, carrying that same sense of duty and service into every chapter of his life.
Don loved deeply and lived fully. He was outgoing, boisterous, funny, charismatic, empathetic, wise, and endlessly encouraging. He had a servant’s heart and a gift for making even ordinary moments fun. Whether he was sharing stories, offering counsel, or simply laughing with friends and family, people were naturally drawn to him.
Outside ministry, Don enjoyed hunting, Chicago Bears football, history, genealogy, and especially time with family. His curiosity about people and the past, paired with his big personality, made him both a storyteller and a listener — someone others felt safe with.
Above all, Don loved Jesus with his whole heart. His faith was not just something he spoke about — it shaped how he loved, led, and lived every day.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Dale; his eight children — Don Robert (Kelly), Trina (Dan), Heather (Matt), Erik (Sabrina), Kyle, Josh (Paola), Stephanie (Christopher) and David (Sierrah); nineteen grandchildren (seven boys and twelve girls); and six great-grandchildren (four boys and two girls). He is also survived by his siblings Thomas, Martin, and Dennis.
He was preceded in death by his sister Donna, his parents Patricia and Don Gordon Oberg, and his brother Dale.
Don leaves behind a legacy of faith, laughter, encouragement, and service. His impact will continue through the many lives he shepherded, the family he cherished, and the communities he strengthened.
A viewing will be held on February 26 from noon to 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church.
Though deeply missed, his family rejoices knowing he is now at peace in the presence of the Savior he loved and served so faithfully.
