Bruce Edward Owen, 70, of Swartz Creek, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at his home after a hard fought battle with multiple sclerosis. Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel, 501 N. Saginaw St. Durand. The Owen family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 2:00pm-8:00pm.
Bruce was born on September 18, 1951 in Owosso, Michigan to the late William A. and Doris Marie (LaBeau) Owen. He graduated from Owosso High School in the class of 1969 and spent his life as an engineer at General Motors, retiring after 36 years. On October 18, 1975, Bruce married the love of his life, Marcia Ann Varco at Grace Bible Church in Owosso. Together they raised two children, Brent and Angela. Bruce was a perfectionist in everything he did - whether it was polishing chrome for Brent's Mustang, or customizing his 1974 Z-28 Camaro that he took 18th place with in the International Show Car Association (ISCA) Great Lakes Division. Bruce loved to design, build, and produce model cars. He was the 4 time MPC International Car Champion and the 2003 GSL-XIX National Model Car Champion. Cars weren't Bruce's only passion. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marcia, their son, Brent (Angela) Owen, and daughter, Angela (Edward) Donathan; grandchildren Bryce Owen, Riley Owen, and Eleanor Donathan. His siblings; William C. (Linda) Owen, Jacqueline (James) Newport, and John Owen, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank Ira Tillotson and Judith Dudley for their service and companionship. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to the staff of Grace Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bruce's name to the National MS Society or to Grace Hospice.
