Vernon Hall Guthrie was born on May 29, 1929 in Gurley, Alabama a son of Thomas and Cynthia (Allen) Guthrie. He served proudly in the United States Navy and Army. Vernon loved bowling. Prior to his retirement in 1993 he worked as a truck driver for over 30 years.
Vernon is survived by his children, Gayla (Allen) DeLong of Byron, Sheila Matthews of Clarksville, TN, and Jimmy Vaughn of Farmington; grandchildren, Kelly (Gary) Burwell, Lisa (Richie) Bowen, Mary (Derek) Lopez, Jonathan (Loly) DeLong, Jennifer (Robert) Brown and Ruth (Brian) Claud; 20 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Black of New Market, AL; good friend, Don Francis; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Shelby Lopez; siblings, Christine, Ernest, A.C., Essie, Bessie, Sue, William and Shirley; parents, Thomas and Cynthia Guthrie.
