Bruce E. Rivers, 78, of Pleasantdale (Town of Schaghticoke), beloved husband for over 43 years to Kathleen A. Wood Rivers, peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Slate Valley Center in Granville, NY.
Born in
Malone, NY he was the son of the late Howard and Elvira Manning Rivers and was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park and Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
Bruce career of service to our country began with his service with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1970 and then with the U.S. Navy until his Honorable Discharge in 1993 when he transferred to their Fleet Reserve. Bruce was a decorated veteran having received the Vietnamese Service Medal With Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal With Device, National Defense Service Medal (2), Purple Heart Medal With Star, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation Three Good Conduct Awards, Sharpshooter Badge M14 Rifle and the .45 Cal Pistol Marksman.
Bruce was an outdoorsman by heart and loved fishing and hunting. He was a skilled woodworker and especially enjoyed whittling walking sticks.
Bruce was a man of great faith and was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh.
Beloved husband to Kathleen, devoted father of Justin M. Rivers, brother of the late Daniel Rivers and the late Judith Isakson, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115 th Street in Lansingburgh)
Troy, NY 12182 and to St. Augustine's Church, Lansingburgh where at 10:00 a.m. his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment with full military honors is scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026 at Noon at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871.
Bruce's family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to the Nurses, Doctor's and entire Staff at Slate Valley Center for the wonderful care which they had provided to him while he was there as well for their support to them.
