Bruce D Schofield

Bruce D. Schofield, 88, of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023.
Bruce was born in Detroit on July 27, 1935 to Daniel and Laura Schofield. In 1938 his family moved to Grosse Pointe Woods where he graduated high school in 1954. Bruce also joined the US Navy Submarine Reserve and trained at the Broadhead Naval Armory aboard the WWII submarine USS Tambor on the Detroit River. After initially signing up for eight years of inactive duty, he requested two years active duty in which he served from 1957-1959. He was shipped out on the submarine USS Thornback, and stationed in Key West, FL. His tours of duty included operations in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Great Britain and The Mediterranean.
Eventually, in the 1965, Bruce married the love of his life, Laura. Together, they had twin boys, the start of their family. Bruce obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Wayne State University, and eventually went on to work for the Ford Motor Company for 10 years. During his time at Ford, he was the president of the Ford Thunderbird Ski Club from 1971-1974. Bruce was an avid skier as well as an avid scuba diver. After working for Ford Motor Company, Bruce went on to own and operate the River Valley RV Park for 27 years in Gladwin, MI. After retirement he returned to Grosse Pointe Woods and spent many happy years vacationing around world. During this time, Bruce rekindled his deep passion for classic cars and fully restored what became the second love of his life, a 1957 Jaguar xk140. He was also an active member of the Living Hope Evangelical Church.
Bruce was loved by so many, and will be missed deeply.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Laura Schofield; cherished children, Daniel (Darcie) & Jonathan (Pamela); loving brother, Robert Schofield (Ann); as well as four adored grandchildren, Helena, Chloe, Kyra and Parker.
A visitation for Bruce will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236. A visitation will occur Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236. A funeral service will occur Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236.
