Bruce Shirvanian (1948–2025)

Bruce Shirvanian, beloved husband, father, and educator, passed away peacefully at the age of 76. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, in 1948 to Vartan and Isabel Shirvanian, Bruce grew up in Upper Saddle River, where he became a standout student and athlete at Mahwah High School. He served as the Student Council Treasurer, He was also the president of the National Honor Society and a key member of the school's tennis and cross-country teams.

Bruce continued his education at Rutgers University, where he earned a degree in social studies and a master's degree in education. In 1972, he began a 39-year teaching career with Hanover Township Schools, shaping the lives of generations of students. That same year, he married Karen Shaiman, and together, they raised their two children, Lauren and Daniel, in Byram Township, where they lived for 48 years.

Throughout his teaching career, Bruce worked with children in various grades, including first, third, and fourth. In the 1990s, he transitioned to the role of computer teacher at Salem Drive, where he remained for the rest of his career, inspiring young minds with his patience and dedication.

Bruce's passion for coaching led him to assistant coach several middle school sports teams, including soccer, basketball, and softball.

Outside of work, Bruce cherished his time spent skiing with his family, particularly in Colorado, Utah, and Lake Tahoe, where he created lasting memories with his wife, children, and extended family and friends.

Bruce was unwavering in his support of his children, Lauren and Daniel, attending every activity and sporting event they were a part of. His generosity knew no bounds, especially when it came to giving his time and energy to help them pursue whatever they were passionate about. His love and support for them were boundless and immeasurable.

Bruce is survived by his devoted wife Karen, his children Lauren and husband Terence, Daniel and wife Lindsay, and his adored grandchildren, Liam and Wyatt, who brought him immeasurable joy in his later years, and his brother Lee and wife Barbara.

Bruce's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for his family, friends, and students will continue to inspire all who knew him.
