Joseph T. Moore of Ashburn, VA, affectionately known as Joe, "Chubby," and most dearly, "Man," passed away unexpectedly on August 2, 2025. He was 48 years old. Joe was born on January 15, 1977, in Newark, New Jersey, at Saint Michael's Hospital to Joseph T. Moore and Johnnie Mae Moore. From birth, his family lovingly called him "Man," a name that captured his spirit and strength and remained with him throughout his life. Joe began his education at Saint Rose of Lima Elementary School in Newark before completing his elementary years at Holy Name of Jesus in East Orange. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory School for high school and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Seton Hall University. He continued his academic pursuits, earning a Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University and a PhD in Public Policy and Administration with a specialization in Homeland Security from Walden University. Above all else, Joe's greatest joy and proudest achievement was being a father to his beloved son, Isaiah. Nothing in life came before Isaiah-he was Joe's heart, motivation, and constant source of happiness. Joe cherished every moment spent with his son, whether coaching his basketball team, sharing life lessons, or simply enjoying each other's company. He poured his love, time, and energy into being the best father possible, and his devotion to Isaiah was evident to all who knew him. Joe dedicated his professional life to public service, most notably as a Homeland Security agent with U.S. Customs. His career was marked by an unwavering work ethic, a commitment to excellence, and a drive to serve his country at the highest level. Joe quickly distinguished himself as an elite employee, rising to the top of his field through sheer determination, exceptional skill, and an ability to handle the most challenging assignments. He was deeply respected by colleagues and superiors alike for his integrity, leadership, and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. Joe's expertise and dedication made him a sought-after instructor and mentor within the agency, where he helped train and inspire the next generation of agents. His contributions to the safety and security of the nation were significant, and his legacy as a hardworking, dedicated public servant will not be forgotten. Later in his career, Joe became a respected professor of criminology at George Mason University, Columbia Southern University, and several other institutions. He was recognized with numerous awards for his excellence in teaching and service. In his free time, Joe was fiercely independent-living up to his nickname "Man"-but was always ready to offer a helping hand to others. Joe was someone you could always count on; he gave of himself wholeheartedly, never hesitating to support family and friends. Joe is survived by his beloved son, Isaiah Moore; his parents, Eugene and Johnnie Mae Scott; his sister, Shonda Moore; his brothers, Eugene Scott II (Taneshia Scott), Michael Moore (Heather Ellis), and Joshua Scott; 12 nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by 11:00am Funeral Service at The Life Christian Church 747 Northfield Avenue West Orange, NJ 07052, on August 15, 2025, Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Joe will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, loving spirit, and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.
