Bruce Alan Smith was born in New London, Connecticut, on October 4, 1946 to Eugene and Myrtle Smith. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Carmen Smith and his three daughters, Christine Rogers and her husband Don, Elizabeth Thomsen, and Patricia Fitting and her husband Matthew; and his seven grandchildren, Tyler and his wife Carol Ann, Cade, Hannah her husband Eli, Seth, Grace, Aubrey and Autumn, and his three great-grandchildren, Noah, Vincent, and Anthony.
Bruce was a hardworking man, who loved the Lord and sharing Him with others. He always had a kind word for anyone he met and was known for his story telling. Some of his favorite stories to tell were of him and his brothers, Vic, Gene and Jimmy and their misspent youth. Bruce, like the other men in his family, served in the United States military. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the Navy. Bruce was a skilled painter and used his talents both as a Civil Engineering painter and supervisor during his 23 years working for the U.S. Government. He often painted cars, Chevy trucks, and school buildings to help pay for his daughter's Christian education, something Bruce felt strongly about. Bruce enjoyed working in his yard and playing with his grandchildren. He loved being with people and his greatest desire was that his family and friends would know the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He died on April 19, 2023, in Dallas, Georgia and will be laid to rest in the Georgia National Cemetery.
