Bruce Mahaffey Speakman

Bruce Mahaffey Speakman of Canal Fulton, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully late in the evening on February 20, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on December 24, 1942, in Massillon, Ohio, to James and Dorothy Speakman, Bruce lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
Bruce was the younger brother of James Speakman, loving husband of Mary Speakman, and a proud father to Tracy Speakman, Jason (Elaine) Speakman, Deborah Nutter, Bob Dismukes, and Denise Speakman. He cherished all of his grandchildren-Ashley (Adam) Snyder, Amanda (Daryl) Schilling, Tucker, Ryan, Alyssa, and Carter-who knew him fondly as "Pop." He also adored his great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Everly, Ellie, and Olivia.
Bruce, a proud graduate of Massillon High School, dedicated 27 years of service to Massillon Steel Castings before continuing his career at National Feedscrew & Machinery for another 22 years. Beyond his work, he found joy in fishing, boating, golfing, woodworking, and spending time with his family at Portage Lakes. His passion for good food-especially Mary's latest recipes-was well known, as was his sweet tooth.
Bruce had a quick wit and a playful spirit, always ready with a joke or a nickname for everyone he met. His generosity extended beyond his family, as he proudly served as a member of the Canal Fulton Lions Club, volunteering his time to give back to the community. A true animal lover, Bruce had a special place in his heart for every dog, cat, and bird.
Bruce's legacy is one of kindness, humor, and unwavering love for those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bruce's life on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home in Canal Fulton. Visitation will be held at 11:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 pm. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
