Bruce Steinbicker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Groce Funeral Home & Cremation Services - East Asheville on Feb. 8, 2024.
Bruce David Steinbicker, 85, of the East Asheville community, died in the Solace Center on February 7, 2024, after an extended illness. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1938 to Bruce Lloyd Steinbicker and Susan Spengler Steinbicker. Bruce served honorably in the US Army. He was proud of being a first-generation college graduate after graduating from Western Carolina University at the age of 37 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Bruce was a CPA and retired from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mavis Ruth Steinbicker; his son B. David Steinbicker, Jr. and his wife, Gina M. Steinbicker, of Sylva; his granddaughter, Natalie Ruth Steinbicker; his grandson, Seth Hayden Steinbicker; his sister, Sandra Miklos, of Emmaus, Pennsylvania; his sister-in-law, Joann Dixon, of Ulvah, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Onis Collins, of Knoxville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Bruce had many interests, including baseball, bluegrass, trains, cats, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. He had a kind heart and was a supporter of food pantries for college students. He had a great passion for the underdog.
Bruce was prophetic in the last few months of his life when he stated, "East Asheville won't be the same without me and my old car." You are right, Dad. He requested that his death not be viewed as sorrowful, but for his life to be remembered as a good life. He lived his life by simple rules: be honest and try to find the good in everything.
In accordance with his wishes, Bruce is being cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials should be made to one's favorite charity.
