Bruce Aldon "Skeeter" Stone Jr.

Abingdon, VA - Bruce "Skeeter" A. Stone, Jr., age 62, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 14, 2022. Bruce was born in Marion, NC, attended Abingdon High School, and lived his remaining years in Abingdon. Bruce owned and operated Stone's Lawn Care for 30 years. Bruce was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bruce A. Stone & Helen Shepard, and his sister, Susan McSwain.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Karen Castle Stone of Abingdon; stepson, Dillon Meade of Castlewood, VA; stepdaughter, Erica Meade of Abingdon; step grandson, Jacob Meade of Castlewood; two stepsons, Brandon and Eric Hall of Marion; his sister, Sharon Filby of New Madison, Ohio; his faithful companions Simba and Runner; and his in-laws and family who loved and supported him.
Bruce loved to fish, spend time on his boat, and cook. He was an avid Coach K and Duke Blue Devils fan. He enjoyed participating in competitive sports, watching basketball, and hanging with his friends, especially Jeremy and Marlana. Bruce, known as Papaw Scooter to Jacob, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teaching him jokes, tricks and all the other fun things that grandsons love to learn (like learning to drive at age 8).
Visitation with the family will be held 2-3 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2022, in the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Jeremy Clevenger and Dillon Meade speaking.
