Bruce Swinford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory on Oct. 15, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Bruce Swinford, 80
It is with a broken heart we are announcing Bruce Swinford left this location and went to live with Jesus on October 12, 2025. He was born in Valparaiso, Indiana on May 18, 1945. He was a resident of Okeechobee for 40 years, where he attended the Gathering Church. He loved his black truck and called it the Black Knight.
Bruce was an awesome family man; he treated all the children the same. There were no stepchildren in our home. He loved and enjoyed life. He never met a stranger, and he loved to help people. Day or night his family could call and he would go.
We started Big Lake Missions in 1995 feeding the homeless and needy families from all walks of life for 30 years.
Mr. Swinford was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Swinford; father, John Swinford; two brothers, Billy and Barney; and two sisters, Beverly and Bonnie.
He survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Ann with a broken heart; five children, Pam Wyatt (Doug), John, Nason, Gary, and Steve; four grandchildren, Doug (Rebecca), Kristin, Amanda (Caleb), and Amy (Jeffrey); seven great grandchildren, Carson, Kenley, Caden, Zoey, Cloe, Roxy, and Ayden; two sisters, Brenda Williams and Betty Williamson (Bob); one brother, Barry (Elenore); and his two special cats, Gabriel and Kee Kee.
Visitation will be held at 10 am until service at 11 am on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Buxton Okeechobee Funeral Home. Bruce will take his last ride in his truck to Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a procession but no service at the cemetery.
Memorial can be made to the family to help with expenses.
