Bruce Warren, age 76, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with prostate and bone cancer. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy, and two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay & Jill and Lee & Stephanie. Born and raised in New Jersey, he graduated from Rutgers University as a Henry Rutgers Scholar in Latin American Civilization and then received an MBA from Rutgers, Newark. He worked as an auditor, medical practice administrator for several ophthalmology practices, and practice administrator for hospital systems for much of his professional life.
His goals in life were simple. He wanted to be a great father. He wanted to travel. And he wanted a place where he truly felt at home.
After being introduced to Judy multiple times by multiple mutual friends in 1972, they decided they must be meant for each other, marrying in May,1974. Their two sons became the focus and joy of their lives. The family moved to Connecticut where the boys were raised.
During family trips, Bruce found that he loved many things about Colorado. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer and retiring, Bruce & Judy decided to retire to Fort Collins where they have lived for more than a decade. Bruce found Colorado to be his "happy home", while continuing to bike, increasing his hiking, and finding the pure joy of finding male friends to hang out with. The "HOT HIKERS" (Hiking on Thursdays) guys, became the focus of his weeks. Planning trips with friends as he developed his incredibly detailed spreadsheets, provided memorable trips for small and larger groups of buddies.
Bruce loved being in Fort Collins pursuing many activities over his retired years. While hiking and being outside in nature were his absolute favorite activities, he also enjoyed watching CSU girls volleyball, listening to the symphony at CSU, high-altitude baking (among other culinary adventures), golf, biking, and being active in the gym during the colder winter months.
Seeing his sons marry incredible partners, increased his joy and allowed for visits to North Carolina, San Diego, and Chicago.
Bruce was a kind, quiet man with steely intensity. Loved and respected. Proud that he accomplished so many of the goals he set for himself. A loving family man. Friends on the East Coast and wherever he went. So upset at the cancer that changed his life and life's pursuits. So grateful for the medical professionals at Poudre Valley Hospital Infusion Center, UCHealth Harmony Cancer Center, Dr. Ross McFarland, MD and Ms. Kim Lindeken, NP, for shepherding him on his last journey.
The family requests in lieu of flowers or food that donations be made to the Food Bank of Larimer County or Family Housing Network, Fort Collins or a charity of the donor's choice.
