Bruno Charest Obituary

Bruno J. Charest, affectionately known as Bucky, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on April 14, 1934, in Manchester, NH, Bruno was a man of many talents and unwavering dedication to his loved ones.

Bucky was part of the first graduating class of Bishop Bradley High School in Manchester, NH. He later served proudly in the U.S. Army for two years. Bucky began his banking career in 1952 with the Manchester National Bank, which later became the Bank of NH and is now part of TD Bank. He devoted 44 years of his life to this profession, retiring in 1996. His hard work and commitment were evident throughout his career, reflecting his character as a dependable provider.

In his personal life, Bruno was known for his remarkable skills as a handyman; there was not a tool he couldn't master, the scroll saw in particular. His love for family came through in his many hobbies. Each winter, he would build a backyard ice skating rink that delighted not only his children but also the neighborhood kids. This cherished tradition was carried on by his son, David P. Charest. Bruno also enjoyed ice skating on Dorrs Pond and was a passionate bicyclist, riding for miles daily well into his 80s. A dedicated woodworker, he created beautiful pieces using his scroll saw and cherished crafting for his loved ones. Most importantly, he treasured the time spent with family above all else, embodying the values of love and togetherness.

His proudest accomplishments include marrying his high school sweetheart, Rachel J. Charest, with whom he shared nearly 30 years of a loving marriage that set a standard for all around them. The couple raised two children, David and Debra, instilling in them the importance of family.

Bruno is survived by his son David P. Charest and his wife Renee, his daughter Debra A. (Charest) Cunningham, his sister Sr. Denise Charest, three granddaughters, two grandsons, and five great grandsons, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will profoundly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel J. Charest, his second wife, Betty Jenkins Charest, his father Henry J. Charest, his mother Rose Marie (Fredette) Charest, his brothers Paul and Richard Charest, and his sister Jeannine (Charest) Auger.

Calling hours for Bucky will be held on Tuesday, April 22, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium - 250 Coolidge Ave, Manchester, NH. A funeral service will follow on Thursday April 24, beginning at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry, NH, concluding with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
