We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother,
greatgrandmother Buenaventurada Ibuyan, affectionately known as Bing, Mama Bing, or Oma Bing, was
born on Thursday, February 6, 1947, in Daliaon, Davao City. She was raised with her parents, Meleton
and Lucia, and her siblings, Buenaventura, Wilfredo, Rosario, Rosalia, Nicetas, and Veronica. Bing was
the second of seven children.
Bing graduated elementary and high school in Toril, Davao. She started a Bachelor of Education major in
English in University of Mindanao. To support her education and family, she worked as a househelp for
her aunt. However, her parents' lack of emphasis on education prevented her from completing her
studies, leading her to work full-time. She also worked as a secretary at a radio station.
When she was 21, Bing met Noe Ibuyan. They were neighbours when she was working as a househelp
for her aunt. They fell in love and got married in Davao City on May 24, 1969. They then moved to
Matina, Davao in 1969.
When Bing became pregnant with their first daughter, Maricar, she had to stop working at the radio
station and focus on being a full-time mother. Noe worked at the Coca-Cola company, and Bing tried
various ways to support their family. She sold fish, food, and offered salon services like manicures and
pedicures to earn a living.
Bing is blessed with six wonderful children: Maricar (John), Marimil (Johan), Maricel (Erwin), Michael,
Remington (Gladys), and Lara Bea (Ian).
In the late 1980s, in Matina, Davao, where they lived, missionaries would often pass their house. Bing
was always curious about their activities. One day, she called them and asked. The missionaries' names
were Sister Spears and Sister Saranillo. These sister missionaries planted the seed in our family. Bing
was baptized on April 19, 1980 along with her 2 older children.
Bing has been an active member of the church, raising her children and grandchildren with the Gospel.
She was the reason Michael served his full-time mission.
Bing has held various callings, including ward Relief Society president, ward seminary teacher, visiting
teacher.
Bing was known for her fun and lovely nature. Our house was a popular spot for missionaries and
members to gather. She was also renowned for her cooking skills and loved feeding the missionaries.
They couldn't get enough of her delicious meals! The assistant mission president introduced Bing to the
mission president, who asked her to cook for missionaries at their conferences. This all started around
2010, and Bing has been catering for missionary conferences until she couldn't because of her health.
Bing was also blessed to travel to different countries like Dubai, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany,
France and her last destination was here in the United States of America. She was so overwhelmed to be
here in Utah and attended the general conference last October. It was her dream to be in Salt Lake and
see the conference live and hear the Tabernacle Choir.
Bing is also blessed with 11 wonderful grandchildren: Karla (Michel), Karlo (Monique), Mikkaella, Tristan,
Andre, Erin, Lark, Aaron, Eve, Addison, and Heisen. She is also blessed with one great grandchild, Noah.
Bing took care most of her grandchildren especially Karla, Karlo and Lark. They grow up with Bing and
planted that seed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Because of her membership of the church, it built a strong foundation that bonded the family with the
teachings of the Gospel that will carry through eternity.
Bing leaves behind a legacy not written in books, but in our hearts--- one of love, strength and strong
faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. She may have left this earth, but the legacy she gave us will keep
guiding our family for generations.
