Obituary
Burrell Brown Ill passed away after a long battle with a chronic illness on September 26. 2025. He was 81 years old. Burrell was born on April 11, 1944, in Cumberland, MD, to the late Marcenia Brown and Burrell Brown Jr.. He was a spirited son. Burrell dedicated over twenty-one years of service to the United States Postal Service, until an illness led to his early retirement.
In June 2007, Burrell became a member of the Greensboro Seventh Day Adventist Church and later joined the Triad Adventist Fellowship Church. He contributed to his church community as a deacon and was actively involved in various outreach activities.
Family and Loved Ones
Burrell is survived by his devoted wife, Bonita Reid Steadwell Brown. He was the father of four children: Burrell (Crystal) Brown IV and Tyrone Brown, both of
Greensboro, NC; Darrell (Tedra) Brown and Timothy (Theresa) Brown, both of Durham, NC. His legacy continues through seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Additionally, Burrell leaves behind four stepchildren: Marquisa Steadwell, David (Dannelle) Steadwell, Dannel (LaTorya) Steadwell, and Derek Steadwell, all residing in Greensboro. He was also a loving step-grandfather to five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
His siblings include Marcenia Brown Mitchell of Cleveland Heights, OH; LaVerne Brown Starks of
Greensboro, NC; Gregory Arnell (Valerie) Brown of Durham, NC; and Sheila Brown (Marcus) Sudderth of Lilburn, GA. He is mourned by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and his best friend of fifteen years, John Rich.
Life, Passions, and Legacy
Burrell was a wonderful, loyal, and loving husband. He brought joy and laughter to those around him, often being the source of smiles with his sense of humor. He was passionate about football, with a particular fondness for college teams; he appreciated the teamwork and play styles of college athletes over professionals.
Surprisingly, Burrell found great fulfillment in working with children. As a volunteer for Lots of Love Companions, he took on several responsibilities, including nurturing children in the BEANS nursery and Lots of Love Companions' Sunday church nursery. His gentle nature and caring approach drew children to him, calming their anxieties and bringing comfort. He always ensured that each child received a reward at the end of every session and eagerly looked forward to caring for them, whether daily or weekly as needed.
Burrell broke the mold of a supportive and caring individual, embodying compassion within a stern exterior. His impact on family, friends, and the community will be fondly remembered and deeply missed
Burrell also worked as a community helper in Lots of Love Community Volunteers. He helped with the distribution of Thanksgiving and Christmas meal through Lots of Love Community Volunteers. He had dedication to the elderly and handicapped individuals in the program. His contribution was well received.
Now, this good man must rest and hopefully, we will see him again.
