On October 13th, 2025, Burton Small Mullins, Jr., servant of both the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church in America, died and entered his eternal rest at the age of 89. Mr. Mullins is survived by his beloved wife Gerda P. Mullins and children Burton S. Mullins, Ill, and Miriam E Mullins-Chavez
Burton was born in Eufaula, Alabama and raised in a loving and caring Christian home in Clanton, Alabama by his parents Moran Talley Mullins and Burton Small Mullins, Sr. He received both Bachelor and Master of Arts Degrees in English History from the University of Alabama. Burton also served his country- in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Following university and military service, Burton worked with the U.S. Department of State and the Department of Defense in several overseas locations including Frankfurt, Germany, Panama City, Panama, Asmara, Eritrea and Tehran: Iran. He retired from the Federal Government in 1994 after working as a personnel officer with the U.S. Coast Guard in Washington, D.C.
Burton was ordained an elder at Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Vienna, Virginia. In retirement he also served as an elder at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Brevard, North Carolina.
Highlights of Burton's retirement were serving his Lord as a missionary associate teaching English to students at Yanbian University of Science & Technology in Yanji in Northern China and living in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. As Burton often said, "No one could have had a more richly blessed life than I did... it was all of God's grace."
