Born July 28, 1940, in Lansing, MI, Byron passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Grand Brooks Memory Care in Fishers, Indiana after a time on hospice. As per his wishes, cremation followed.

After living a few years in Lansing, MI, the family moved to Waukegan, IL. In High School, Byron was an officer in the Waukegan Civil Air Patrol and later joined the United States Air Force to serve his country from November 1961 to September 1966. Byron earned a bachelor’s degree in recreational administration and a master’s degree in education and counseling from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. He was actively involved with the Purdue Musical Organizations, a member of the Purdue Men’s Varsity Glee Clubs, and an assistant to the director(s) of PMO for eight years. A highlight in 2018, Byron and Brian sang at the Purdue Men’s Varsity Glee Club’s 125th Anniversary with fellow students and alumni. He also loved being a 6th Grade Teacher at the North White School Corporation for 15 years. He served his Lafayette community as an assistant director on the Heritage 75-76 Celebration; as a personnel manager for the City of Lafayette; and elected to serve on the Lafayette School Board of Trustees for four years. Byron has also received multiple honors including Alumnus of the Year by the Purdue Chapter of Delta Upsilon (1975); and commissioned Distinguished Hoosier by Governor Edgar D. Whitcomb (1971). He was a member of the Kiwana’s, the Delta Upsilon International Fraternity, Shriners International, the West Lafayette Lodge #724, the Hope Chapter #5 Order of Eastern Star (Lafayette), and a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.

After a catastrophic accident in 2000 and recovery time, Byron moved to Robin Run Village Senior Living where he lived for 20 years. He enjoyed using his administrative skills with the Resident Council, assisting the Chaplain Office, and spending many hours in the woodworking shop. He also volunteered with the local reading program helping children to enjoy reading.

Survivors include nieces, Christine Hamblen (John) of Indianapolis; Karin Gibson (David Palencia) of Wainscot, NY; nephew, Robert Gibson (Brenda) of Columbus, IN; two great nieces; one great nephew; and several beloved cousins and their families.
