It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Norma Jean Young, who left us peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the age of 86. Norma was born in Indianapolis on April 10,1939, to Charles and Mildred (Wheeler) Dickerson and was one of five siblings.

On April 10, 1959, she married the love of her life Michael R. Young and together they raised three sons in the town of Brownsburg, IN. Norma worked for many years at the Brownsburg High School cafeteria and at one time made ceramics that she sold at local craft fairs and bazaars along with her sister Judy.

Norma’s passion was her family. She had her hands full raising three sons and was always helping with the grandkids. She spent frequent weekends visiting with her sisters and could be found on the phone with them in the afternoons catching up on family events. Her home would often be converted into a makeshift event center for holidays, birthdays, and cookouts. The house would be fully decorated each fall for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, Christmas being her time to shine. And of course, you could not have a holiday without everyone gathering for a big meal. Twice as much food was fixed as what was needed and nobody went home hungry or without leftovers. Her picture albums are filled with photos of the many gatherings of the people she loved.

Norma enjoyed the weekend camping trips she took with her husband, Mike. She put as much time into buying food and organizing for the weekend as the trip itself. If anyone had a knack for organizing things into containers, boxes or baskets for the camper, or even the house, it was her. Everything had its place.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Norma is survived by her sons Michael (Deb) Young, Charles (Cindy) Young and Bradley (Kristy) Young, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband Michael Young, father Charles Dickerson, her mother Mildred Dickerson, brothers Bobby and Junior Dickerson, sisters Dorothy (Paul) Scott and Judy (Dick) Grimsley, and grandson Paul Young.

Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd W Drive, Indianapolis, IN, 46228. Visitation will be on Monday, February 9 from 11 am to 12 pm. Service will begin at 12 pm. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park North Cemetery.
