Byron Russell Hatfield "Russ," age 78, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Washington Court House, Ohio, Russ spent much of his life in Cincinnati, where he taught and coached.
In retirement, he cherished his time with Midland Baseball and, in later years, moved to Kentucky to be near his beloved granddaughters, Maggie and Addison—who truly were the light of his life. Russ delighted in helping his daughter, Jodi Chandler, and her husband, Matt, care for their small farm in Shelbyville, Kentucky, a place Russ came to love deeply along with all the people in it.
It was in Kentucky where he met and married Jan, the love of his life, whom he cherished dearly. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and coach, Russ was loved by everyone he met and brought joy to all who knew him. His unwavering strength, quick wit, and ability to not take life too seriously made him a constant source of laughter and light.
Russ is survived by his wife, Jan; his daughter, Jodi Chandler (Matt); his cherished granddaughters, Maggie and Addison; stepchildren, Jenni Coes and Matt Fisher (Amra); his brother, Bob (Linda); and a large extended family who will miss him dearly.
We are most thankful that Russ found peace through a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has now been reunited with his mother, Marjorie Hatfield; father, Byron Russell Hatfield Sr.; and his brother, Rick Hatfield in his heavenly home. A celebration of Russ's life will be held at a later date.
