Byron Merritt proud native son of Baltimore, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy marked by talent, dedication, and a love for his city, family, and community. Byron was a product of the Baltimore City Public School System and a proud graduate of Edmondson-Westside High School, Class of 1994. Driven by a desire to grow and refine his skills, he continued his education at RETS Vocational School, preparing himself for a life full of meaningful work and service. Gifted with a natural talent for working with his hands, Byron flourished across multiple trades and occupations. His professional journey included significant roles at Omni Hotels in Charlotte, where he served in Maintenance Engineering and other capacities. He also dedicated time to Allied Universal Security as a Master Security Officer, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety. His love for music and community shone through his work as a Sound Engineer for the Unified Voices Choir at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where his technical skills and spirit of collaboration brought joy to many. Byron also shared his passion for food and service as a cook at Micah's and Pargo's Restaurants, and his pride in his city was evident through his work at M&T Bank Stadium, where he supported the home team in more ways than one. A true creative, Byron also expressed himself as a DJ, mixing to the beat, bringing rhythm and energy to countless gatherings. But beyond his many talents and occupations, Byron will be most remembered for his love of people, his unwavering support for the Baltimore Ravens, and his ability to make any space brighter with his presence. He was preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne J. Merritt; paternal grandparents, Bertram & Theresa Merritt; maternal grandparents, Edward & Pearlene Marcus. Loved and adopted by many as brother, uncle, son, trusted co-worker, confidant and friend. He leaves behind his father, Samuel R. Merritt, Sr.; stepmother, Clara Merritt; an older brother, Samuel R. Merritt, Jr.; older sister, Yolonda L. Merritt; godmothers, Joyce Sims and Anna Armstrong; and uncles, aunts, a host of cousins, and adopted nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
