The Rev. C. Thomas Cleaton Jr.

The Reverend C. Thomas Cleaton, Jr., died Friday September 26, 2025, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. He was born on August 2, 1948 to the late Charles and Jane (nee Winkler) Cleaton. He was educated at St. Mark Elementary School, Cleveland, St. Edward High School, Lakewood, Borromeo Seminary College, Wickliffe, and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On June 14, 1975 in Holy Family Church, Parma, Ohio, Bishop James A. Hickey ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland. During his 48 years of priestly service Fr. Cleaton was known for his kindness. He retired July 1, 2023 as
pastor St. Marys Church in Avon.
He is survived by his sister Carol (Ken) Szabo, brother Jim (Denise) Cleaton, 6 nieces and nephews and 26 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Jane (nee Winkler) Cleaton.
The service will begin on Friday October 3, 2025 in St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Rd. Avon, Oh. at 3:00 pm with Vespers, Bishop Martin Amos will preside and Fr. Joe Workman will be the homilist, followed by a visitation from 4:00-7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 4, 2025 in St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church at 11:00 am. Bishop Michael G. Woost will be the main celebrant and Fr. Russ Rauscher will be the homilist. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park, Oh.
