C. Ronald Lewis, 92, died Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12:30 pm Wednesday, September 10th at Iles Westover Chapel where Funeral Services will begin at12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Ron was born December 23,1932 in Collegeville, PA to Clarence and Hazel (Koepkey) Lewis. The family moved to Long Beach, CA and he graduated from Venice High School. He attended USC as an All American Football player for four years. Ron played professional football for the Los Angeles Rams for a number of years. As part of his training Ron went to the Los Angeles School of Ballet. He was a regular guest at Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion. Ron was very patriotic and joined the Coast Guard in 1952 and was stationed in the Alaska territory. Following his time in the military, Ron was a Fire Marshall in Los Angeles. Ron met Victoria Williams when she moved to Southern California. The couple married and made their home in Windsor Heights. The family spent lots of time with friends and family at their home at Lake Panaroma. Ron began his career with Williams Wilbert Burial Vault Company. Serving families in central Iowa since 1964. Ron enjoyed playing golf and was a charter member of Des Moines Golf and Country Club. He went on many adventures on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with family and friends. He rode until he was almost 80 years old.
Survivors include his children: Eric (Heidi Roberts) Lewis of Urbandale, Brad (Kay) Lewis of Dallas Center; grandchildren: Taylor Lewis, Lexi Lewis, Laina Lewis, Nick Lewis, Luke Lewis, Caden Lewis; and his life partner, Mary K. Day of West Des Moines. Ron was preceded in death by his 98 year old sister, Lorraine.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League or the World Wildlife Fund. During his lifetime Ron loved animals, trained German Shepherd dogs, and donated to animal welfare causes.
