Caleb “Shawn” Chamberlain, 64, of Adel, IA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family on Friday, August 15, 2025. A visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday August 20, 2025 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Adel. A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the First Christian Church in Adel. Interment will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to raise a glass, cast a line, and cherish the ones you love—just like Shawn would have wanted.
Shawn was born and raised in Iowa and graduated from Adel DeSoto High School before making his move to California, where he built a life full of laughter and unforgettable moments. He is survived by his wife, Joy Chamberlain; their children, Rocky (Lindsey) Foster and Levi Foster; and his beloved grandchildren, Urijah, Hendrix, Aspyn, and Riggs Foster, who were undoubtedly the light of his life and the recipients of far too many sweet treats. He also leaves behind his mother, Barb Chamberlain (née Gregg); his siblings Rob (Sherry) Chamberlain, Chris (Bud) Jorgenson, and Connie (Joel) Annear; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Those who knew him best saw the fierce love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren, for whom he would have moved mountains.
Shawn was preceded in death by his father, Bobbie Gene Chamberlain, and four siblings: Susan, Bobbie Gene, Roberta, and Care. Their memories remained close to his heart.
Shawn and his wife Joy shared a life rich with adventure. Whether they were cheering on their grandkids at games and events or traveling across the country, they embraced every opportunity to experience something new together. From the mountains of Colorado to the beaches of Florida and Hawaii, and even the wide-open skies of Texas, Shawn opened Joy’s world to a life full of exploration. Their journey together was one of deep love and shared wonder.
Shawn was an avid fly fisherman who found his peace on the water, especially in Northeast Iowa, where he would spend hours casting a line into the beautiful trout streams. Of all the places he lived, his favorite was just outside Lake Tahoe in California, where fishing streams were around every corner. He loved fishing anywhere he could find a good stream, always with a fishing rod in one hand and a cold beer in the other. Shawn also had a soft spot for casinos—especially the slot machines. Whether it was a quick spin or an all-day outing, Shawn loved the thrill of a good win.
Shawn could often be seen cruising around in his golf cart wearing a USC shirt, with a Trojan flag flying proudly from the back. He had a love for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals for his family and friends. He was also known for always keeping the windows on his truck spotless — a small reflection of the care he put into everything he did. A hardworking handyman, Shawn could build or fix just about anything. If something broke, Shawn was the guy you called, ready with tools and a solution for almost any problem.
Shawn's life was defined by his deep loyalty, his colorful character, and the memories he created with those lucky enough to be close to him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. He will be missed more than he’d ever admit, and probably more than he ever thought possible.
