Caleb Loring Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Beverly on Jan. 5, 2026.
Caleb Loring III, 82, of Prides Crossing, MA died on Christmas Eve 2025 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA. Born in Washington, D.C. on November 14, 1943, he was the son of the late Caleb Loring, Jr. and Rosemary (Merrill) Loring, and husband to Bronwyn (Evans) Loring for 59 years.
Caleb was foremostly a devoted family man, survived by his wife "Bonny" and the following descendants: his son, Dr. Caleb Loring, IV of Spartanburg, SC, and his daughter, Caitlyn Loring Thomas of Prides Crossing, MA. His son's family includes Mary-Stewart Holmes Loring and daughters: Blair Jernigan Loring, Merrill Evans Loring, and Jane "Sims" Simrall Loring. His daughter's family includes her husband Gregory Sean Thomas and children: Alayna Kathryn Thomas, Emma Rosemary Thomas, and Adam James Thomas. Caleb is survived by his brothers, David Loring of Newbury, MA and Keith Loring of Sarasota, FL, as well as his sister, Rosemary Loring Byrne of West Newbury, MA.
Caleb was a humble philanthropist, quietly supporting those people, charities, and ministries that came to him in need. He contributed his time, talent and treasure to many organizations, serving in leadership roles at the YMCA of Greater Beverly, Salvation Army North Shore Corp., North Shore United Way, North Shore Community College Foundation, St. John's Episcopal Church, Christ Church of Hamilton and Wenham, Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, Inc., Global Unites, North Shore Christian Network, Inc., Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Beverly Hospital Northeast Health System, Trustees of Reservations, Shore Country Day School, North Shore Community Arts Foundation, Mass. Society for Aiding Discharged Prisoners, The Boston Fellowship, North Shore Music Theater, Montserrat Art College, Dartmouth Educational Assoc., Alpha New England, Vision New England, and more. In addition, he served on professional boards over the years. He formed the North Shore Christian Businessmen's Group and attended Bible studies throughout his adult life.
Caleb was an avid athlete and enjoyed being outdoors. He played ice hockey and ran cross-country at Dartmouth and hiked in the White Mountains. Caleb played tennis and raced sailboats with family and friends. But, if you asked him, he would say his greatest pleasure was ballroom dancing with his wife, daughter, and granddaughters.
He was an alumnus of Shore Country Day School in MA, The Hill School in PA, Dartmouth College and the Amos Tuck Business School in NH. After college he worked undercover for the CIA in Washington, D.C. before attending business school. Then he was employed by the Bank of Boston and became a Vice President in the New England Division. From 1982 on, he led the Ayer family office known then as Essex Street Associates in Beverly, MA, overseeing the financial affairs of over 100 people.
A memorial service will be held at the AJ Gordon Chapel, Gordon College, 255 Grapevine Rd., Wenham, on January 31 at 2 pm. Contributions in Caleb's memory may be made to Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, Danvers; the Salvation Army North Shore Corp., Salem; or Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, S. Hamilton.

Caleb Loring III was the executor of the estate of Michael P. Grace II from 1995-2018. I was the administrative assistant to the estate. This was a complex and time consuming estate. Most of these beneficiaries were Christian ministries that Michael Grace remembered in his will so that they would be able to continue to preach the gospel and reach the lost for Jesus. The Grace estate beneficiaries received the maximum amount of distribution from the Grace estate because Caleb Loring took no administrative fees as the estate executor. God bless Caleb Loring III for his sacrificial efforts to help so many. He made a difference in so many people's lives and in the kingdom of God.
