Thomas Vincent Root

Thomas "Tom" Vincent Root, age 73, of Beverly, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.
Born May 25, 1952, in Key West, Fla., he was the son of the late Arthur and Josephine Root. Tom was raised in New London, and was a 1970 graduate of East Lyme High School. He went on to attend Western Connecticut State University.
Tom was the co-founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Acera LLC, where he dedicated his professional life to the development of OEM solutions designed to enhance medical care and treatment. His leadership, innovation and commitment to advancing healthcare technology were central to the development of several new patents.
A devoted and experienced sailor, Tom found great joy on the water and shared this passion generously with his family. He was a life member and past Commodore of the Jubilee Yacht Club, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed meaningfully to the boating community.
Tom also held a lifelong appreciation for music, particularly drumming, a love he proudly passed on to his grandsons. He was a constant and enthusiastic presence in their lives, attending their sporting events, activities and milestones with unwavering support. Whether on the baseball field, basketball court, soccer games, or even at swim lessons, he was always there to cheer them on. He even tolerated traveling to New Hampshire during the winter months to watch them ski.
He is survived by his wife, Leah E. Root, of Beverly, Mass.; his daughters, Leah J. Carlin of Ipswich, Mass., and Stephanie A. Herbster of Beverly, Mass.; his sons-in-law, Patrick Carlin and Matthew Herbster; and his cherished grandsons, Thomas Carlin, Jacob Herbster and Andrew Herbster. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Stephen Root.
Tom will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his personal and professional achievements, and the many lives he touched through his generosity, integrity, kindness and humor.
Tom's funeral service will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Thursday, January 29th, at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
